Employers Requesting Facebook Passwords At Risk For Employment Practice Lawsuits

As the popularity of Facebook grows so do the risks.  Many people who are seeking employment are now required to give access to their social media sites.  This new trend of job applicants having to hand over their user names and passwords is very disturbing.

Two Senators, Charles E. Schummer, D-N.Y. and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. have asked the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Justice Department to initiate an investigation.  Many of the employers who are requiring the information are unaware that under the current laws they are increasing their chances of being sued.  Senators Schummer and Blumenthal have asked the EEOC and the Justice Department to issue a legal opinion on whether this violates federal law.
